Great Player...

You know, I just realized what I love about "checking in" here every day or two. The randomness of the music player is one of my favorite things...tonight, Voices In the Wind caught my ear...it's just beautiful, and definitely had the effect of encouraging me to check out all of Bernd Scholl's music. It really reiterated for me the importance of every exposure an artist can get, large or small...especially when today's emphasis is usually on "large!" I hope you're finding your visits to the Circle rewarding, too.

It used to be the stuff of the 60’s and 70’s. A magical mystery tour express, where rock stars and alternate religion advocates converged on the same track – New Age Music.Free flowing, free form melodies inspiring introspection and what was called Universal Awareness. If you thought this trend went underground, you’d be right. But underground didn’t mean gone. The original proponents merely entered conventional society: Cutting their hair, getting jobs, marrying and starting families. But throughout it all, their beliefs not only didn’t disappear – they solidified, gaining a quiet new strength and following.Today, the once famous Age of Aquarius is now simply known as New Age. And instead of being on the fringes of society, it’s in the mainstream as evidenced by James Cameron's blockbuster movie "Avatar."Edward Weiss, teacher, author and composer is yet another individual on the vanguard of this continuing spiritual awakening.Perhaps not as famous as the movie director mentioned above (at least not yet) Edward has put a new spin on connecting with the New Age lifestyle: He teaches New Age Piano Music Composition. And in keeping with this innovative movement, he does it all online – for beginners and well as seasoned musicians. As Edward explains:“New Age Music isn’t some strange, esoteric chiming cadence. It’s actually the melody of one’s soul or spirit. The tempo is flowing and vibrant, with a touch of mystery always woven into the background.“Think of it as the difference between formal ballroom dancing and ballet. Rather than restrictive and rigid, New Age music seems to whirl around your very senses.”How difficult is it to start playing your very own New Age Music?“Not really difficult at all,” says Edward. “All you need is the desire, the patience – and of course the keyboard. My step by step online video instructions provide the rest.”Now, you may not be ready for signing a recording contract after taking Edward’s course, but you will learn the basics of playing and composing your very own music. And isn’t that what this New Age is all about… finding innovative and fresh ways in expressing your own individuality? What better way in doing just that than in creating mystical, spirit inspired music – the timeless voice of nature itself. For those interested in learning more, Edward Weiss’s website can be found at: http://www.NewAgePianoLessons.com .

“Circular Scriptures” By Steve Brand, on January 11th, 2010I just got the mail that the “Circular Scriptures” page is live on CDBaby.com! You can find more and longer samples on either the rM/Wordpress page or my MySpace page.First, let me say that I’m very proud to have been asked to release this album on John Koch-Northrup’s flagship label, relaxedMACHINERY. I look forward to releasing with John again in the near future and expect that you’ll discover lots of new and exciting music on rM.The initial impetus for “Circular Scriptures” was to create subtly complex, slow-moving, diaphanous sheets of sound, multiple layers or washes of feeling tone?all interacting, with little distinct points of reference. At the time I began this album, I was deeply immersed in the channeled information of Kryon (Lee Carrol) and Tobias (Geoffery Hoppe). In particular, I was/am intrigued with the idea that although we may experience the events of our lives as series of linear events, with one seemingly leading to another, time is not actually linear. Instead, “time” (a phenomenon that is said to be unique to our experience as Human Beings) is non-linear, multi-faceted, multi-dimensional, more or less metaphorically running and intersecting in a mind-bending multitude of directions all at once. Correspondingly, because we seem to experience time as linear and sequential, our beliefs and thinking have become linear and sequential. However, as we begin to understand the multi-faceted nature of time, our true selves and our experience, we will need to create new metaphors, new understandings, new scriptures, that reflect this broader understanding, which are circular rather than linear ? circular scriptures. The music simply sprang from the seeds of these metaphysical influences that tell of the grandness and unlimited possibility of undefined, unconfined Being that are we currently standing on the threshold of. I intended that “Circular Scriptures” be a soundtrack for timelessness.“Circular Scriptures” times in at about 70 minutes and consists of 3 tracks: “Light, Mother of Shadows” 24:57; “Circular Scriptures” 20:35; “I Have Already Left the Room” 28:38. This album is characterized by occasional hints of natural sound, shimmering diaphanous semi-transparent layers of sound that come forward, recede, overlap, earth shaking timbres surface, rumble and submerge again, and near orchestral/symphonic/choral allusions. The initial sketches where done in a very spontaneous manner, utilizing some large segments of sound that I had been experimenting with at the time, bringing together the elements with an emphasis on emotive qualities and their ability to shift, morph and interact with one another. The final product was refined and distilled over a period of a year to maintain a certain level of simplicity and light. The final track, “I Have Already Left the Room,” features occasional additional sounds from Matt Hiller/Ishq.More about the nature of time.

SUBMIT YOUR TRACK FOR THE 2010 COMPILATION

Thanks to all members who have responded to the new 2010 SOUNDS FROM THE CIRCLE compilation. We have received beautiful music from you! Absolutely overwhelming. I am now in the process of sorting it all out. All those who have responded and DID NOT RECEIVE AN ANSWER from me, please send me a note here on the circle. Some emails got lost in the spam filter. I am extending the deadline for you!!! I was able to discuss many innovative ideas with the participating members about how to promote these compilations but also how we can actually turn this also into a commercial opportunity to get the investment back. Besides putting an imix up on itunes there might be other coop ideas to sell these compilations. For example each artist could sell a certain amount of CDs - maybe 100 each? We could have a limited edition? SOUNDS FROM THE CIRCLE evenings and house concerts could be organized as well... Please let me know your thoughts. I am working with Beth Hilton on these compilations and we will keep you posted on all promotional activities we are conducting this year with the new 2010 compilation. Best wishes to all of you Suzanne

MP3 Album Aquasphere for Sale!

UPDATE: I have witdrawn the album so it will be deleted soon, a new version of Aquasphere will be released where the duplicate is replace and has got an addition.
It will be anvaliable in the coming week. Do not buy the album in the link below, as there will be new Aquasphere in the coming week. To know the correct album, the indication of correct is that it has 28 (!) songs and not 16, 27 or 11.I have now released my first real album through Record Union. It's named Aquasphere and contains 26 (27 with one duplicate) very intresting soundscapes around 10-20 minutes in average length. There was many earlier albums out on sale, but they have been removed. This will be the first mature, real release I have done. Unfortunally, there is no diffrence between the two tracks, Formula of Love and Peace and Formula for Love, this is something which is to late to fix.If you live in US, you can retrive the album digitally to your computer with no DRM, on the amazon store, from this link.Buy it from here on Amazon

BODHI TREE BOOKSTORE CLOSING!

Bad news for Buddhists and others seeking enlightenment: the Bodhi Tree Bookstore is closing. Owners Phil Thompson and Stan Madson informed their staff last Wednesday that the cozy Melrose Avenue shop, a nationally renowned and much beloved spiritual center, will be shutting its doors in a year's time. After some eight months of discussion, Thompson and Madson decided to sell the property to a local business owner who leases space to several other nearby retailers. The Bodhi Tree opened in 1970. Land values in the area have risen dramatically since then. Meanwhile, the business of selling print books has been on a steady decline. For years, real estate agents had been circling the Bodhi Tree like vultures. In the end, selling the property became a much more profitable option than continuing to sell books. Thompson and Madson started the bookstore when they were in their 30's. They are now both in their early 70's. They were aerospace engineers who left a life of science for one of contemplation and meditation. "Twenty years ago we felt like it was an expanding situation," says Madson. "We were concerned the store was getting too big. We had a staff of 100. Publishing was expanding. Spirituality was expanding.. But what changed was that the market became widely dispersed." Books on Wicca and Astrology and Native American shamanism used to be tough to find. But now every Borders and Barnes & Noble carries a significant selection of religious, spiritual and New Age literature. And what can't be bought at a bricks and mortar shop can undoubtedly be found online at Amazon. For cheap. For the Bodhi Tree, the question of how much to grow became one of how long to hold on. Thompson and Madson built most of the wood shelves and fixtures in the store themselves. The floors creak. The walls are permeated with the smell of incense. Two chubby bookstore cats roam the aisles and pause to be petted by customers who call each kitty by name. Thompson likes to think that the place has helped people who were lost, who were trying to discover who they really are, whether that be through Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, or Islam. They both worry about what will happen to the community once the store is gone. Where will people go for spiritual solace? "Perhaps a wealthy philosopher entrepreneur will come in to buy the store and keep it going," says Thompson. "A sort of philosopher king. Or queen." In the absence of a deus ex machina, however, the Bodhi Tree's fate seems sealed. "We thought we had more time," says Madson. http://bodhitree. com/

My next compilation, "Beyond", an ambient new age music piece designed for film and other visuals will be hitting the digital outlets by late February. This will be my fifth release in as many years. 'Beyond' represents the influences by artists such as Harold Budd, Steve Roach, and Kitaro (among others), and features synthesizer work by myself with the help of a few 'bells and whistles'. It is also a celebration of sorts for having been 'cancer free' for five years now (my doctors say it's incredible the progress I've made). This compilation will be available in 104 countries, and most of the major digital outlets.
