So for the past few years, I've taken to amusing myself with this thing called the "National Solo Album Month" challenge. The goal is the act itself: complete an "album" of at least 29+ minutes in length completely within the month of November. No prizes or awards, just the recognition in completion. This year was a slightly different slant for me: This past Spring, I traveled to Croatia for the first time, visiting Dubrovnik and Zadar (I was presenting an academic conference that was being held in both cities, so I didn't see too much more than that). I had taken a field recorder because 1. I wanted to record some of the speakers and 2. I had discovered something about Zadar before I ever submitted my paper proposal and, when the paper was accepted, I took it as a sign that I MUST record this: The Sea Organ at Zadar. A quick search will turn up a number of hits, including some videos. One of ones I found that had me excited before leaving was here ... http://www.croatia.org/crown/articles/9359/1/Nikola-Baiae-author-of-the-Zadar-Sea-Organ.htmlI came back with about 8 hours of stereo audio of all kinds of sounds, songs, noises, street sounds ... you name it. And I had made a number of new friends ...So this year's NaSoAlMo, as we short-hand it, is dedicated to all of them and to My Muse, who was not able to travel with me, but was with always with me ...http://soundcloud.com/usrsbin/sets... I hope you enjoy it ...~~ Dennis

So, hi everyone. My name is Meredith, and I go by Braindouche! (including the exclamation point, it's very important) most everywhere on the net. I've run a podcast for the past two and a half years, also called Braindouche!, and I'm currently locked in mortal combat with my hundredth episode. I call it a "free form audio arts"' podcast, because nothing else fits, either.I also design jewelry, design websites and do graphics, talk on twitter, and other things too.Anyway, so, for the longest time I've been making very dark industrial noisy music, toying around with harsh electronica genres, producing some abysmally bad trance, and life was good. Over the past couple of months, though, I've totally lightened up. My music has very suddenly gotten light and happy and, dare I say it, inspirational. It's still ambient and electronic and abstract, but It went from stuff like this: Powertools by Braindouche!which I love like puppies and sunshine, to stuff like this: Vistas 1 by Braindouche!which is a snapshot of a track i'm working on right now.I'm a big believer in just going with it, so I'm here as part of my search to find musical communities that are more utopian than dystopian, and I'm looking forward to talking with listeners and especially musicians who discovered the light side of the force before I did.So, hi! Nice to meet you all!

Suddenly A Great Silence

Forgive me father, it has been 5 months since my last blog post.It is a bit hard to keep an audience when you disappear. But you know, blogging does not come easily to everyone. Musicians tend to speak with notes rather than words. Songwriters are excluded of course but I know many a songwriter that can’t write a paragraph. Hooks yes, prose no.So for those of you who were actually following my exploits in trying to put together a new CD I apologize. Life seems to come at you from so many angles that things get lost. Of course, life doesn’t come at you. You are life so it really comes from you and with you. But that is what it feels like. I guess the real feeling is being out of control.I am not sure we are ever really in control. We certainly want to believe we are. It males us feel safe to think that we con control events. But how much control do you really have? Most things happen on their own. Like planets orbiting or hair growing it all seems to happen with zero input from me.This is as true for creating a CD as it is for digesting food. I think I am controlling the process and then it all starts heading in a direction that seems quite wild and unpredictable. For example, I was certain that this album would be a mixture of solo piano music with ambient New Age floating kind of music. Some with piano some not.Well the powers that be decided otherwise. All the solo pieces seemed to beg for my attention. New ones appeared that seemed to be right for the album. Unfinished pieces finished themselves. And I found a studio nearby to do the mixing, with a very gifted engineer and the two of us came up with a process that had us mixing 15 songs in about 12 hours. It became clear that this album will be nothing but solo piano and I have nothing to say about it. I really thought it would be otherwise but then there I was with 15 piano pieces completed, mixed and ready to go. My original plan of 7 piano pieces and then more ambient and atmospheric material just vaporized. Then I saw where the state of everything was and recognized that I wasn’t really controlling this process, I was just participating in it. And it was apparent that going with the solo piano pieces was not only the right choice, it was the inevitable one. It was never really a choice at all.So there it is. The album has taken its final shape. Emptiness Dances, 15 pieces for solo piano. You can preview it here if you like http://gpwalsh.com/latest-releases.php. Hopefully it will not be 5 months before my next post. But since I don’t really have that much to say about it I will only say that that is my intent. We will see.

Moments to Reality

The Moments to RealityThis poem I shall dedicate to a stranger who passed away a few days back. He was a member of https://newagemusik.ning.com/. For this stranger I did not know, or even ever meet. I only know of him from what I have read; such warm remarks for this person they called Jim Brenholts. A message posted by his brother Tom, both inspired this poem and dripped a tear from my heart. He said “It is hard now; everyone's cyber life is just as large and just as real as their personal life” and this is so true.

Days filled with dreamsthat transpire into wishes, wishes become momentsmoments to reality. In every whisperis a message of hope, every hope a crystal prayer, prayers become moments, moments to reality. Our wealth becomes goldthat we accumulatethroughout our days, each piece carefully collected, polished to a shine,a shine given a name,a name becomes moments, moments to reality.Suddenly life changescauses moments to alter, alter in the breeze, for the most painful worry about dyingis what we leave behind;for your can’t take your treasuresas much as we try…butYour Gold is your friends, each shared something with you, something special,a moment engraved into timeas it encapsulates your journeyalthough, tears have fallen, hearts feel heavy with each awaiting beat, drifting towards moments to realityAt-last, you know one thing is for certaineach vein of goldhas powered the soul, which generated this eternal lightbrilliantly it shinesfrom the heavens above, guiding a path along the moments you sharedso each golden friend can hold youin their heart once more...

CROSS PROMOTING OUR MEMBERS

Hello All Amberfern came up with a great idea to start cross promoting each other on iTunes. You swap reviews with your favorite artists. You can apply the same concept of course to Amazon, CD Baby etc. That's up to you and your supportive partner. I would like to add another idea. Let's miniblog about eachother as well on Twitter. Choose your favorite artists contact them and swap miniblogs - ideally one every day for each artist you support and vice versa. If you have any other ideas how we can support eachother - please let us all know! Suzanne

demo trak uploaded

ok...the trak i uploaded is a very rough demo recorded back in march....soundforge was just running in the background, while the good ol' ARP 2600 and the CS-80 were acting up on me...well..kinda...lol....don't ask me how this trak made it this far in the year, because i don't have a clue. it probably won't wind up on any release, so it's going to be stuck in the archives for a while.
